About Me
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Smit and I'm in the Educational Technology and Media Leadership with optional Teacher Librarian credential program at CSULB. Before my journey in education, I was a computer programmer for about ten years. Technology education and diversity in STEM are topics that are very important to me.

Currently, I am one of the library aides at Chadwick School, where I'm hoping to support the digital literacy program and create more extracurricular STEM programming. In the future, I'd like to get my PhD and research equity in STEM and personalized learning to increase access.

Professional Philosophy
In my experience, children are inherently curious and, as educators, it's our job to tap into that and help students become life-long learners. Libraries, especially, are filled with opportunities for students to experience things from beyond their normal day-to-day. While our duty to support their development as digital citizens is vital to students' education and growth, we are also free to explore other avenues to promote interest and excitement in the larger world. Furthermore, libraries are grade-free zones, where students can find respite from the stresses of school, while still challenging their minds and expanding their horizons. In short, libraries enrich and expand students' educational experiences as they become well-prepared and successful adults.
